Wyoming Sucks.

We ran around Cheyenne in the morning for eats and errands. An interesting little town. Downtown had a great Route 66 feel to it. I would have liked to stick around take pics, but we had a Looooong day of driving. We stopped to take a group pic in front of home depot. Our inspiration was “A dysfunctional and rather bored rock band”

We finally were on the road around 1:30[?] and settled in for a long run on Route 80. Our elevation was rising and the vans were not liking the ascent. Aside from being fully loaded, facing a head wind uphill, the engines were losing power due to altitude. It was disturbing. Chilipepper was also exhibiting signs of Vanagon Syndrome. Not Good. We stopped in Laramie for me to get some parts that I could try and fix the problem if it got too bad and then kept going. And going and going. The landscape was flat, boring and endless. Oh yeah, and it was hot. So at 50 – 60 mph at best, we were not getting through this state fast enough. Anything less than 120 mph in Air conditioning would not be fast enough. Every crest of the highway we climbed over just revealed another 10-15 miles of the same straight highway with another promising crest. It never ended.

We stopped for dinner at a bizarre Chinese American hamburger restaurant. With a creative spin, it could be an funky place. But without it, it was just odd and a bit crusty. We hit the road again with the sun setting and finally [!] crossed the border into Utah around 9:15. The evening drive was not bad. It was all downhill [literally!] from the state border. We drove into Salt lake city late in the evening. And headed off route 80 in search of a free camp site listing we found. After 4 miles up a “road” - being a path of more rocks than plants – we set up for the night.
